Question:
What is the difference between a middle school program, a high school program and a mom/dad program? I see that you have 8 week sessions for some, daily, monthly or quarterly memberships for others so I wondered what the difference was!
Allen W.
Sarge Says:
Allen, the difference between my middle school and high school strength training program is based on the fact that pre-adolescent males and females have open growth plates, and, their spinal cords are not fully developed. I do not have them attempt any closed chain kinetic exercises with more than 50% of their body weight because the risk of injury outweighs the benefit of the movement. I have run this middle school program for over 8 years and had no injuries, a record that I am proud of.
High School athletes have a sport specific program that is designed with the individual in mind. Different sports, male/female, body type and strengths and weaknesses all go into developing the individual program and just as no 2 athletes are the same, none of my programs are the same.
We have different memberships to make it convenient and avoid locking someone into a long term commitment. There will be no "up-sales" or pressure in the membership options, if and when you decide to join knowing my expectations . . .THAT'S WHEN THE PRESSURE IS ON!
I have the toughest, hardest working athletes in the NATION!
Question:
My daughter goes to Cumberland Valley High School and she and some of her friends are currently doing a training program with one of the personal trainers from a local gym. They lift and do speed drills two days a week and the trainer also has them on a nutritional package for their performance. Some of the other girls are coming to you, some are going to other gyms and some just decided to do things on their own at the High School. This is my question Sarge:
How do I decide where to send my daughter when there are so many options and opinions from coaches and parents?
Sarge Says:
Ill give it to you quickly, probably ruffle a few feathers along the way but here goes:
Personal trainers do a great job personally training athletes but some people just cant afford to pay $50 an hour 2 or 3 days a week. I would question your daughter doing everything on the same day but time slots are what make P.T.s money and that is why the girls are doing 2 days with back to back sessions. You have to be careful with certified nutritionists, I am a certified nutritionist but realized after hiring a licensed nutritionist that my knowledge is minuscule compared to someone who does it every day. The majority of the trainers who are also certified in nutrition are like me, pretending to be well versed in something they know little about. I am certified in CPR but if you fall over would you rather have me standing next to you or an EMT?
How do you decide where to send her? She will do well where she feels comfortable and unfortunately many young athletes tend to go where their friends go! That doesnt mean they are getting quality training, it means they like where they are.
I began back in 1992 at Cedar Cliff High School, moved to The Mid State Sports Complex in 2000 where I worked until last year, I have trained thousands of local athletes who have gone on to college and professional sports. I have trained National Champions and All Americans but WILL NEVER use their success or post deceiving pictures on my web site to try to boost memberships! I am certified through the International Sports Science Association and bring over 25 years experience to the table, I will not try to hard sell anyone on my program, its the toughest in the State, possibly the Nation. I hold all members accountable academically and behaviorally, they will understand accountability, honesty, integrity and discipline while training with me. My prices have gone down since 2000 and there are no up-sales or hidden costs when you sign on!
The trainer you are referring to does a great job, I know him so your daughter is in good hands. If she is happy dont change a thing. If you feel like your money is not well spent, look elsewhere there are many places close by who do wonderful things for student athletes.
